On June 19, the European Research Center of the Institute of Human Rights Law, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), was officially established in Vienna, Austria. Lu Guangjin, Secretary-General of China Society for Human Rights Studies; Li Xiaosi, Chinese Ambassador to Austria; Koller, Vice-President of the Austrian Federal Council; Gerd Kaminski, Executive Vice-President of the Austrian-Chinese Friendship Association; Xu Xiaodong, Vice-President of Huazhong University of Science and Technology; and Wang Xigen, Dean of the School of Law of HUST jointly unveiled the nameplate of the research center. Heinz Fischer, former President of Austria, President of the Austrian Friends Association; Bierlein, Prime Minister of Austria; Rausch, President of Eurasia-Pacific UNINET, Meißel, Vice-Dean of Faculty of Law of University of Vienna; Professor Mazal, Head of International Exchange in the Faculty of Law; and Eder, journalist of the Austrian Press, attended the relevant activities. Five teachers Li Lei, Teng Rui, Li Du, Ma Xiao and Tang Liu of the School of Law of HUST also participated in the activities.

During the event, Vice President Xu Xiaodong, on behalf of HUST, signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Austria-China Friendship Association. The two sides will carry out in-depth cooperation in terms of legal personnel training, scientific research, and academic exchanges. Xu Xiaodong said that, as a world-class university, Huazhong University of Science and Technology has made significant progress in the field of humanities and social sciences, and conducted characteristic research of human rights. Mr. Xu sincerely thanked Mr. Kaminski of the Austria-China Friendship Association for his warm help, and hoped to deepen cooperation and exchange with the Austrian side, in order to promote win-win and all-win situation. Kaminski, President of the Austria-China Friendship Association, has devoted a lot of effort to the establishment of the European Research Center. Before that, he visited HUST and was appointed as an advisory professor of HUST.

The Institute of Human Rights Law of HUST is a platform for human rights law research built by HUST to further promote the theoretical research of human rights and implement the strategic deployment of the Party and the state on strengthening the protection of human rights by law. The current dean of the Institute is Wang Xigen, the Yangtze River scholar Professor. The establishment of the European Research Center is designed to strengthen the research cooperation between the Institute of Human Rights Law and European countries, improve the international research level of the Institute, and further enhance the international influence of the Institute in the construction of the human rights discourse system.
