Profile

Dr. DENG, who holds the chair of ‘Outstanding     Scholar of Huazhong University of Science and Technology’, is a professor of     public international law at the Law School.

He studied law at the Law School of the Wuhan     University and obtained his PhD in 2001. He subsequently carried out his     post-doctor research in the Tibetology-History at the China Institute of     Tibetan Studies of Sichuan University and visited the James Madison College     of international relations of the Michigan State University as a senior     visiting scholar.

Currently, he is a director of the Chinese     Society of International Law and the China National Association for     International Studies. In the meantime, he is also a standing director of the Chinese Society of European Law. He serves as     adjunct professor at the Wuhan University and the East China University of     Political Science and Law.

Research Fields

As an excellent expert in public international law     and international relations, Dr. DENG’s expertise is in the field of the     basic theories of international law and the practices of the world courts.

He is also one of the authoritative scholars in     China with a focus on the legal issues concerning Tibet and the Sino-Indian     relations.

Teaching Courses

Dr. DENG undertakes courses of the public international     law and the history of international relations for undergraduates,     postgraduates and overseas students. As the chief-director of the national     model bilingual course ‘Public International Law’, he participated in the     writing of many influential textbooks of public of international law.

As the general coach, he trained many students to     participate the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, the     Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition and the IHL Moot Court     Competition, and won excellent rankings.

Publications

Dr. DENG is the author of ‘Administrative   Tribunal in International Organizations’. Besides, he also published   numerous articles in the Chinese Journal of Law, the China Legal   Science, the Dushu Magazine, and the Law Review in regard   to the issues of basic theory of international law and the practices of the   world courts.

He undertook several Major National Social Science   Fund Projects which include the Legal Study on the Tibet’s Status in Chinese   History and the Study on Important Issues of International Law in   Sino-India Relation.

Academic   Conferences

As the co-chairman, Dr. DENG jointly organized the   international legal forum ‘Return to Silk Road: Sino-Turkish International   Economic and Trade Law’ with Marmara University of Turkey in Istanbul and   Wuhan.

He attended the 46th Conference of United Nations   Human Rights Council as Chinese representative and gave his speech on ‘the   Protection of Children in Armed Conflicts’.
